70mai TERA 1000 Portable Power Station review

Review a few minutes

Portable power plants come in a lot of battery capacity and inverter power. For everyday use, a 1000W/h battery and a 1000W AC inverter are more than enough to power small to medium size equipment for a reasonable time.

These numbers provide a small and affordable unit of comparable size to a portable cooler and a hovering weight of 10kg.

The Tera 1000 is equipped with a 1000W/h battery and a 1200W AC inverter.

It sports a large color LCD and connects to the 70mai mobile app via Bluetooth. A wide variety of AC and DC output sockets are included and

along with a built-in AC adapter, make the Tera 1000 a versatile and compact product.

Design 70mai TERA 1000

The Tera 1000 can be mistaken for a retro boombox complete with its speaker grille on the side.

The unit is well built and shipped in protective foam in a compact box. The built-in orange handle is flat at the top and large enough to accommodate all types of hands.

The cage has a smooth texture and rounded edges. It's a lot of fun for power plants. Two large rectangular rubber pads prevent the base from sliding even when placed at a steep angle.

At 12.3kg, the station is quite heavy but this weight includes a large 600W AC charger.

The unit measures 30cm x 23cm x 30cm and comes with an accessory bag containing ac power cords, car charging cables and user manuals.

Plastic cages are supported internally by steel frames that add durability to the design.

One large fan located on the right ensures that the unit stays cool even under heavy loads.

The station offers more than 1000 charging cycles before battery capacity drops to 70%.

Like other similar units, the output socket is located in the front panel. The AC system supports 1200W in continuous mode and 2400W in surge mode.

It is turned on using the press button and offers three sockets that are far away.

This is useful when plugging in AC devices that have a wide footprint such as power meters or Wi-Fi smart plugs.

Fast charging of the station can be done using a built-in AC charger that tops the battery in less than two hours. The 200W Anderson port is also located on the front panel, allowing connection to the solar panels.

The low voltage section consists of seven sockets all activated by a push button similar to ac.

The high-power 60W Type-C connector allows fast charging of laptops and game consoles.

The second 18W Type-C charges smaller devices such as smartphones while two USB-A-supports QC3s are also included to power older devices.

Regulated 10A 13.6V car outlets are included and can power devices such as tire inflators. Finally, a pair of 3A 13.6V DC5521 sockets came.

In use

The bright LCD lights up when the main power button is held for three seconds. The same button shuts down the power plant when it is held for another three seconds.

The LCD menu is well designed with the remaining battery capacity displayed centrally. It is navigated using four push buttons located on the right

allowing activation of various features such as LED lights or AC fast charging mode.

Scheduling to turn AC/DC parts on and off is also supported. Various icons are at the top of the screen and show pairs and fast charging status among others.

The power plant supports a DC passthrough mode where dc parts remain powered while the unit is being charged.

The AC part on the other hand will turn off while charging. Two square dots that look like smaller screens are located on each side of the main screen and serve as low-power LED flashlights.

Solar chargers can be accessed by connecting panels to Anderson connectors and are based on MPPT technology to maximize efficiency.

Charging through solar panels takes about five hours based on the station's 200W input capacity. This can be achieved with two 100W 70mai solar panels.

The Tera 1000 comes with a built-in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) interface and will sip the main battery very slowly over time.

There was no noticeable decrease in battery charging for two weeks with BLE enabled. Bluetooth connections bridge power generation to mobile apps available on Apple and Android platforms.

The installation of the application is simple, only requires that the smartphone has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled.

The owner must create a new 70mai account to use the station. Once completed, the device is added through the app menu.

Using this app is very easy thanks to the simple menu. Ac and DC parts are controlled through buttons on the screen.

Ac fast charging modes and LED lights can both be activated through the application while the output power to the connected load is displayed accurately in real-time. The Bluetooth mode range is about five meters.

The Competition

The advantage of the Tera 1000 when compared to other brands is that it is modern with many options such as the ability to charge quickly

large color display, and of course, the ability to control it remotely through applications. The price remains a good argument to get one at THE $999 MSRP.

The Tera 1000 is very similar to the Jackery Explorer 1000 because both colors sport the same.

Jackery stationery is more compact and lighter because it doesn't pack an AC adapter.

The Explorer 1000 should draw less power without charge because it's not a connected device.

That said, it's outdated and has no apps and all the remote features that these portable power plants bring. It also has less DC output and can only charge in 5.5 hours which is double the time of the Tera 1000.

The objectives of the Zero Yeti 1000 X are very similar in terms of battery capacity and inverter power.

But at a retail price of $1400, it's 40% more expensive than the Tera 1000. The Yeti 1000 X uses battery technology that delivers fewer charging cycles while the number of AC and DC ports is also limited.

Ecoflow Delta Mini is another similar product. It has a smaller 882Wh battery but higher inverter power at 1400W. It's more expensive, has fewer power sockets, and doesn't have a flashlight.

Final verdict

The Tera 1000 70mai brings a balanced product in terms of AC output power and battery capacity at 1200W and 1000W/h respectively.

It packs a lot of features like a color screen and Bluetooth connection that will make it easy.

There is an output option to cover most of the equipment and devices that are in the house.

That said, having a built-in 600W power adapter comes with pros and cons and one thing's for sure, you'll never forget to take it with you.

But this adds to the overall weight of the power plant which is heavier than the competition. LED flashlights can also be a little brighter and have more focus.
